“Almost two years has passed since the OCIO was established in April, 2005. In that short time – and short it is, given the enormity of the task - we have fundamentally changed the delivery of IT/IM services right across government. We have now assumed responsibility for the support and service delivery to 16 line departments and a number of agencies. We have approximately 240 employees and we manage additional contracted resources working on various systems development and infrastructure projects across government. Our total budget has increased over the last 2 years by $18M to $53.0 million in 2006-07.

It’s been an exciting time to be involved in Information Technology and Information Management anywhere – but that’s particularly true for us here in the OCIO. We're re-engineering ourselves - re-inventing ourselves really - and have come together like "birds of a feather" under one roof after being split up and segregated for many years. There's a real sense throughout the team - and throughout the local IT industry as well - that we've got momentum and we're going someplace. That’s due in very large measure to the solid backing and strong financial support that this government and this Premier in particular has shown for our Office.

There is still much to be done to improve the way we serve our clients – and in turn, to improve the way government serves its citizens. The future looks very bright with many positive changes on the horizon for the OCIO - it’s a great time to be in the “Information” business!”
